In this episode, I describe five ways you may be stopping your progress as you take your work in a new direction. If you are hesitating to move forward with your new work, check out these scenarios to discover what may be hindering your progress.
When you are taking your work in a new direction, it’s common to feel stuck. There are so many unknowns and uncertainties to navigate that it’s easy to lose traction and start circling in a state of confusion.
When you can see yourself in one of the following scenarios, you’ll have a better idea of why you feel stuck.
Which Scenario Reflects Your Journey?
ONE: You aren't particularly clear about the core focus of your new work.
If you're hesitating to move forward with your work in any way, it's likely you don't have a clear enough sense of your new work to take action. Your hesitation might show up as confusion, overwhelm, too many ideas, too few ideas, an inability to choose between this idea or that idea, or an inability to commit to following through on one idea.
TWO: You are pioneering a new work or a new field.
When you are bringing a new work into the world that's a little beyond the usual and how people are thinking right now, you are a trailblazer, visionary or evolutionary. You can feel it, you can sense it, you can do it, but you are having a struggle putting your work into words at this point.
THREE: Your delay is a matter of timing.
- Is this the right time for you to be developing a new body of work? Do you have the time and space and depth to be able to develop your work organically through insights and experiences?
- Is your work ready? If you are hesitant to push your work forward into a bigger marketing space, listen! Often your hesitation is because there's more to develop than you know.
- Is the world ready for your work? You may have been holding the vision of your new work for some time. You may question whether you are stalling. Perhaps there’s an energetic breakthrough that needs to happen at a cosmic level, political level, or community level before your customers and the world will be able to embrace what you do.
FOUR: You aren't sure what steps to take to develop your work or when to take them.
When you think about your business right now it's likely you have a list of any number of things you want to do. It's an ever-growing list, but the key is you can't tackle everything at once. You've got to figure out the projects that will move you forward right now. Taking the tasks in the right order will make all the difference!
FIVE: When you are struggling to turn your new idea into a rich body of work.
Figuring out how to transform your idea with potential into a viable business vision can be daunting, especially if you haven’t created something of this magnitude before. With all the unknowns, nuances, and options to navigate, it's incredibly easy to get overwhelmed if you aren't sure how to find your way through this phase.
