Podcast Interview: Finally Resolving Trauma

Rethinking Trauma

In this episode, Carol and her guest, Helen McConnell, discuss misconceptions about trauma and how trauma begins. If you are a Change Catalyst working with clients, you’ll gain a more nuanced understanding of what trauma is and how it may show up in your clients’ life stories.

Helen is an expert at seeing the threads of our emotional past and helping us resolve and release traumatic memories from our nervous system. She helps people retain the learning from the experience and release the emotions that have us recreating situations over and over again.

But what if the pattern of feeling stuck and placing blame stems from a trauma you experienced, but didn’t resolve, earlier in your life? And often these traumas are small events that we don't really remember.

What if there’s a way to resolve that trauma that would free your life up in a way that brings flow again?

We believe that repressing, getting used to, or managing symptoms of trauma is the best we can do to control what’s happening. But strategies that cause us to tamp down emotions are not helpful or healthy in the long run. When traumatized we become hyper vigilant or overreact to triggering circumstances. These overreactions can create new traumas!

When we suppress our emotions, we are trying not to feel the pain. We often just want to make it all go away. But really the resolution comes in the form of a completion.

I hope you enjoy my interview with Helen.
